We’ve recently updated our Hawaii Auto Transport information for our current and prospective customers. Please be aware of the different rules that apply for shipping your vehicle FROM Hawaii or TO Hawaii. Required documentation and Rules FROM Hawaii TO US Mainland: If person named on registration is dropping off: -Current Registration (it cannot be expired) -Current Title (if paid for) or (if not paid for) an Authorization Letter (AKA “Lien holder Letter”) from your bank. By law the letter is only good for 30 days so don’t get it too soon. -Picture ID of person dropping off -If two parties are named on the registration, but only one of them is dropping off, you must get a Notarized letter from the other person authorizing transport to US Mainland (Include full VIN) If someone other than person named on registration is dropping off: -Current Registration (it cannot be expired) -Notarized letter from the person named on registration authorizing the person dropping off to transport vehicle to US Mainland (Include full VIN) -Current Title (if paid for) or (if not paid for) an Authorization Letter (AKA “Lien holder Letter”) from your bank. By law the letter is only good for 30 days so don’t get it too soon. -Picture ID of person dropping off ***Active military are exempt and do not need a Lien holder Letter. Please show military ID. All vehicles going TO the Mainland must have a clean exterior and interior. Dirty vehicles will not be accepted. They are subject to stringent inspections by the USDA. The USDA looks for clumps of mud in wheel wells, under the vehicle’s carriage, under the hood, and looks for dirt, grass, plant seeds in the interior and exterior and for anything that they consider invasive to the U.S Continent. If you fail the USDA inspection you will have to properly clean your vehicle and have it re-inspected by the USDA. Required documentation FROM US Mainland TO Hawaii: If we are taking your vehicle to the port for you no documentation is required. If you are dropping off your vehicle at the Mainland port yourself: -Picture ID of person dropping off Rules coming FROM or going TO Hawaii: -Must be in operating condition with a working emergency brake. -Can only have 1/4 tank or less of fuel. -Can’t have cracked or damaged windshield or windows. -Must either be licensed or qualified to be licensed for operation on public streets or highways. -Must have a clean exterior so a condition report can be made. -Remove All Personal Belongings: The only items acceptable for shipment in your automobile are those tools and accessories normally attached to the vehicle, or permanently installed in the dash, doors, rear deck, or console. For example, IF NOT BOLTED IN, the following items should be REMOVED: •loose radios •CD’s •tape players and tapes •compact disc players and discs •portable telephones of any type •power boosters •equalizers •radar scanners •extra speakers •decorative ornaments •auto protective covers/auto bras •truck tailgate nets •auto roof racks if not factory installed •theft alarm systems (if you choose to leave the car alarm in your vehicle, make sure that the system is disengaged prior to shipment) -Fire Extinguishers must be removed. Federal regulations do not permit fire extinguishers to be shipped with your automobile. -Automobiles shipped between Seattle and Hawaii, especially during the fall and winter months, should be delivered to Matson with antifreeze. -If you are picking up your vehicle yourself at the port you are responsible for keeping track of when your vehicle is available for pick up. You are responsible for any possible storage fees beyond the free storage time. -You can track your vehicle online by using the Matson booking number we supply you with: https://www.matson.com/auto-tracking.html Or you can call Matson Customer Service at 1-800-462-8766 Payment: If you are dropping your vehicle off at the port yourself: -You will pay the Ocean Transport fee (which is already included in your total transport charge) when you drop off your vehicle. Matson accepts: •cashier’s check •bank or postal money order •traveler’s checks •cash •credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express) When paying by credit card at the port, the actual cardholder must be present. Matson will also accept payment over the telephone by credit card. If we are delivering your vehicle to the port: -You must pay the $872 Ocean Transport fee BY THE TIME your vehicle reaches the Mainland port. Your vehicle will not be allowed into the port until it is paid. You may be responsible for storage fees if it is not paid on time.
